Third-party provider chief revenue officer: why certifications like SOC 2 and ISO don't travel with you

Consumers choose a provider directly – not the bank, not the aggregator. But getting connected still runs through counterparties who gate access based on trust, and today that trust gets renegotiated separately with every aggregator and bank you connect through. A System and Organization Controls 2 (SOC 2) or International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification proves what was true at your last audit – it doesn't travel with you into the next connection.

To stop renegotiating trust with every counterparty, Chief Revenue Officers (CROs) should structure their approach around two connected steps:

1. Move from a point-in-time certificate to a live score: Pair a SOC 2 or ISO certificate with a portable risk score a bank can verify in seconds, rather than a due diligence pack that takes weeks to review – accredit early to position yourself as the default trusted option before competitors catch up, and sustain a strong score to qualify for discounted network access fees.
2. Cover your own chain in the same score: Extend the score to your own processors and sub-processors, so you present one verified chain to a bank regardless of your size, freeing up time spent on repeated due diligence to spend on building the business instead.
