When AI agents enter the open finance chain

On 15 May 2026, OpenAI - which says 200 million users already ask it financial questions every month - gave those users the ability to connect their bank accounts via Plaid. An AI company with no open finance accreditation and no financial services regulatory oversight just became a participant in the data chain of 12,000 global financial institutions.
